- Adderal
XR, used for ADHD syndrome (attention deficit hyperactiviy disorder)
has been withdrawn in Canada because of sudden heart related
deaths in children and adults taking recommended doses. The
deaths included 14 children and 6 adults and were not due to
overdoses. It is still available in the US but the FDA is monitoring
carefully. (Feb 11, 05)
- The FDA
has approved Pfizer's Lyrica (pregabalin) capsules for the management
of neuropathic pain accompanying postherpetic neualgia including
shingles. It is classified as an analgesic and is not a controlled
or narcotic drug. (Jan 05)
- Oxycodone/ibuprofen
combo approved to treat moderate to severe pain. Forest Laboratories's
Combunox (oxycodone HCL 5 mg and ibuprofen 400 mg) tablets has
been approved for short term treatment of acute moderate to
severe pain. It is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance.
